Chair Yoga with Tom Somerville

Every Tuesday and Thursday morning, the RSROC center transforms into a sanctuary of mindful movement as Tom Somerville guides our vibrant chair yoga sessions from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Tom's approach has garnered a devoted following among our community members, offering a unique blend of gentle yoga tailored specifically for older bodies while honoring the diverse needs and abilities of each participant.

The classes emphasize accessibility without sacrificing depth of practice. Participants can enjoy the benefits of traditional yoga poses modified for comfort, with options for chair-supported movements. Tom's calming presence and decades of experience create an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome, regardless of prior yoga experience or physical limitations.

Beyond the physical benefits—increased flexibility, improved balance, and greater strength—these twice-weekly gatherings have become a cornerstone of connection at RSROC. Many members report not just physical improvements but significant emotional and social benefits as well, noting reduced anxiety, better sleep, and a deepened sense of belonging within our community.

"Tom's classes help me stay in this aging body with more grace and less pain. But it's the laughter and friendship that keep me coming back."

The popularity of these sessions reflects their value, creating space where LGBTQ+ seniors can nurture body, mind, and spirit in an environment of complete acceptance and support. There is a $5.00 minimum donation per session and you should bring your own strap (it can be a belt or tie).
